Billy Gibson

Billy joined the firm in 1987 and became a partner in 1997. Billy was the first CA student to train with JRD and was renowned for his common-sense approach to accountancy. He had significant technical knowledge in a number of areas including accounts, taxation & IT and dealt with a number of agricultural related clients, particularly from the Dalry office. He was also involved in a number of sports sector clients and had significant experience in the sector as auditor of two Scottish Premier football clubs. Billy was a keen bridge player but his main hobby was following the junior league football club, Hurlford United, and attended their 2014 Scottish Cup victory. Following a long and brave fight against cancer, he passed away on 4 January 2016 and we dedicated ‘The Billy Gibson Training & Conference Room’, within our Kilmarnock office, to his memory. Billy was also a fan of live music - guitar based blues in particular - and one of his favourite bands, ‘The Train Wreckers’ (originating from Louisville, Kentucky), re-named their original track ‘Blues for Ritchie’ as ‘Blues for Billy’ as a tribute on the day of his funeral.
