John R. Dick commenced trading as a sole practitioner during 1978, having qualified as a CA with and independent Glasgow firm and then worked in industry & commerce (latterly in Renfrewshire, where he developed a number of business connections). This prior experience resulted in a strong commercial awareness which provided John with a competitive edge and the firm grew rapidly, soon with larger premises and employees. As a then relatively new firm, availability and a personalised service were also key factors resulting in the firm’s growth.
John always had a progressive approach to business - the firm was the first locally to train CA’s, its approach to IT development was ahead of many firms and JRD Partnership was the first accountancy practice in Kilmarnock to achieve ‘Investors In People’ status.
Angus Dodds joined the firm as a partner in 1985, coinciding with the acquisition of Neil Fullarton & Co, which had offices in North Ayrshire and Glasgow and a considerable client base. Angus shared John’s combined professional and commercial background and had a relaxed, friendly approach which helped develop client relationships over many years.
John and Angus were also in partnership with an IFA and created JRD Partnership Financial Services, which was a set-up at that time. Their legacy of client flexibility, personalised and professional services forms part of the current JRD brand.
