Audit & Assurance Services

JRD LLP was incorporated during 2004 and operates the regulated activities (e.g. audit and other opinion-based work) of JRD Partnership. There are five main activities carried out by JRD LLP:

  • Audit, Independent Examinations and other work for Scottish registered charities.
  • Independent Accountants Reports and other work for clubs, voluntary organisations and other not-for-profit entities which do not have charitable status.
  • Fee protection insurance in respect of HMRC investigations.
  • Other assurance work such as grant claims and due diligence (some of which require to be certified by registered auditors, although do not constitute formal audit remits).
  • We operate a client account

The 'JRD’ brand represents an independent and professional, but highly personalised, service to its clients. Our aim is to carry out all work in line with this ethos but, with the required level of professional scepticism for the LLP’s work.

Charity & Non-For-Profit Sectors

We deal with both incorporated charities (companies limited by guarantee or SCIO’s) and unincorporated charities. All registered Scottish charities are monitored by the regulator: https://www.oscr.org.uk/

Our audit client base consists primarily of Scottish registered charities, including churches, and other not for profit entities. We do not carry out audits for commercial clients unless these are trading subsidiaries of parent charities. Charities are the only specialised audits we are involved with – ie where bespoke documentation and personnel training is required (eg we do not audit pension schemes, credit unions or housing associations).

JRD LLP is registered to carry on audit work in the UK by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland. Details of  our registration as a statutory auditor can be viewed at www.auditregister.org.uk (ICAS reference 0852).

Our non-audit client work for registered Scottish charities (including churches),  voluntary organisations without charitable status, sporting clubs and social clubs etc. includes annual accounts, management accounts, VAT return preparation and on-line filing, bookkeeping services, payroll work (through our separate payroll bureau company), company secretarial services, corporation tax work and consultancy work (including assistance with budgets & financial projections, accounting systems software and development and general advisory matters).

Financial Services

JRD LLP is not directly authorised by the by the FCA but can be viewed on the Financial Services Register: https://register.fca.org.uk/s/ (reference ICAS 852) as we hold  a DPB licence through ICAS which enables us to provide certain regulated products and services as part of our normal course of business (Exempt Professional Firm status).

Many years ago, the original  partners in JRD Partnership were formally involved in a financial services firm (JRD Partnership Insurance & Financial Services). This firm subsequently became Forty Two Financial Planning, a niche wealth management business which was latterly taken over by Acumen Financial Planning: Acumen Financial Planning (acumenfp.com), and who still deal with a number of JRD clients.

We also have a strong relationship with Marwick & Co Financial Consultants, a partner practice of St. James Place, who has a self-contained office within our Kilmarnock property: www.sjpp.co.uk/keithmarwick and who deals with a number of JRD clients.

We are under no obligation to refer clients to these contacts, but we are happy to make introductions to them due to our prior knowledge and experience of them. We do also refer to other financial consultants and are happy to work with existing contacts of our clients, where appropriate.
